I received a collection letter from Financial Credit Services in November, attempting to collect $3,117 on a past due account with Casual Corner - a womens clothing store I've never set foot in, let alone held an account with. To add an air of legitimacy to the claim, the letter opens-
"Let this letter serve as notice that your unpaid Casual Corner account formerly held by D.F. & Assoc. Has been purchased and is nowlegally owned by Financial Credit Services, Inc - FCS"
Gee, sounds like it must be real, right? Except, that my credit report shows no Casual Corner account, and no collections attempts from any of the above. I've got to assume that these guys just send out bogus collections claims, in the hopes that some poor sucker is will believe it and send them money.
