I bought a washer and dryer set from Conn's in December. I have no problems per se with the appliances, or with installation. I do however have a problem with the phone harrassment that has occured over the course of the last 24 hours on my phone from Conn's.
You see, I bought my washer and dryer "on time". No interest, monthly payments, and I believe I am nearly one half paid off, or at least close. I have NEVER missed a payment, nor have I ever been late. On my payment book, it has a date due, and also a late payment date due with corresponding amounts. The late payment due is not until the 14th of the month.included in this payment is a late charge.
Because of a huge bill that I had to cover at the first of the month, I delayed the Conn's payment until the 11th. Since July 4 was a holiday, the due date, and the week-end followed, technically, my payment is 5 business days past the first due date. On Thursday, the 10th of July, I received five separate phone calls to my phone, all of which are recorded into voicemail 'reminding me that my payment is over due, and that I need to make a payment."
On the fifth phone call, which came in at 7:20 PM, I went ahead and listened to their 'automated system" which then prompted me to a live operator. I talked in person to a live human being, and explained that the payment was not considered late until the 14th, that I am making a walk in payment to the store as I always do on Friday when my payroll check arrives to my bank, and that if they would check their records they would see that since December I have never missed a payment, nor have I ever been late. I also explained that they had up to that point called me five times in less than 24 hours, and that is considered harrassment under FEDERAL CONSUMER LAW. I then hung up. I did not give the phone harrasser time to speak or respond.
Within six minutes of the fifth phone call, SHE CALLED ME BACK! (apparently she did not hear a single word I had said to her, especially the part about harrassment!). So incredulously, when I answered the phone, I said, "ARE YOU ACTUALLY CALLING ME BACK?" She had the absolute idiocy and gall to say, "well, I need to call you and explain..." and that's when I hung up AGAIN!
Now, I could understand a few phone calls if I was a MONTH late, or I had not made any payments EVER, or none of them ON TIME... But I have not been that kind of customer AT ALL... It sickens me that I ever gave this company the kind of business that I have given them. I have spent at least $3000.00 with them since December between the on time purchase of my washer and dryer and CASH OUT OF POCKET for a brand new plasma television, HDTV Cables, and a new DVD/VIDEO player combo.
You'd think they would have a bit more class and common sense. If someone tells you, "don't call me anymore, your payment will be there in the store in the morning", and they have a good record with you, wouldn't it be better customer service to invoke partnership, rather than harrass them again?
If ya'all want to give THEM a call, here's their number at that little telephone center... Maybe if the tables are turned, they might get the drift that calling me 6 times in 24 hours wasn't such a bright idea.

I will never be in their store again...
At least Best Buy doesn't call six times in 24 hours... If you're late, you just pay the late fee... If you don't pay, they slap your credit, and re-possess what you purchased... Conns really lives up to their name.
