Deceptive, rude, belittling, do not pay when suppose to, brow beat you, tell you it's ok to lie

I began work for this company a little over a week ago and in the beginning I thought everything was great, they genuinely seemed like a great company. It wasn't until I began to work for them that I found out different. They have new databases for you to call on pretty frequently and before you start each new database you have to go into a phone conference that is only suppose to last 30 minutes, but they wind up lasting an hour. Normally this would be ok, but they schedule the meetings for during your work hours and they DO NOT pay you for this meeting, so basically if you were scheduled for 3 hours that day, you'll only be paid for 2. So needless to say this part bewildered me a bit.

During these meetings they aren't giving you information on how to get "warm transfers better" which is what I was hired on to do. I was told I DO NOT sell what so ever, but the whole orientation was giving me sales pitches to use and showing me how to sell the product. They are also very rude with their sales pitch rebuttals. If a client isn't interested they say he's an idiot for not wanting this "spectacular" service. I don't know about you, but I for one am not going to call a client an idiot or fool.

Also, the owner, Anthony Hobbs says it's ok to lie. He's been making these calls with Magnum for many years but he says he'll still use the lie "I'm sorry, I'm very new to the company but let me give you someone who is more experienced" to make his warm transfers. So you are getting warm transfers by deceiving companies. He also says that if a client says not interested that it's ok to lie and beat them into getting the warm transfer by telling them they are the first company today or even this week that has said no interested. I was NOT comfortable lieing to a company, regardless of reason.

So everything was going fairly well until I got a call from my sister that we had a family emergency. My niece was going in for major emergency surgery in Florida and my sister asked me to come down immediately. Being my family comes first and I would think a company would understand what a family emergency is, I immediately packed my bags to leave. I was in a rush because I didn't have all the details of the surgery, only it was an emergency hysterectomy, so I asked my 23 year old daughter to call Anthony and appologize for me and let him know what's going on and I would be in touch asap. She called Anthony and told him and then she called the head of my department Phoebe to tell her to and they were both very sympathetic and said it was ok and for me to call when I get back.

Well I was gone all this past week, but was suppose to be paid on the 1st. I made sure that all my paperwork was in to get paid and they said there wouldn't be a problem. Well I got back late on the 5th and I still had not received my paycheck, so on the 6th I emailed them to find out what had happened. I was told that there was a "discrepancy" with my paycheck and that Anthony did not sign off on it. The funny thing is, if there was a discrepancy, why wait over a week to let me know? I would have never found out about it if I hadn't of emailed them.

So I get ahold of Anthony and he now has a very rude attitude on the phone. He tells me there was NO discrepancy, that he just wanted to talk to me (and by that he meant lecture me) before he would issue my check. So right here they lied about the discrepancy issue! He asked if I had a minute to chat and I said yes, I'm on my son in law's cell phone and it may die but I have a few minutes to chat before anything like that would happen. He then got rude and told me that if I wanted to be paid I would sit there and make time, which really offended me.

He then goes on to belittle me and tell me how unprofessional I am and he basically didn't care about my family emergency. He said I should have gave him 48 hours notice. I told him I didn't have 48 hours notice either, I was told literally just a few minutes before I got my daughter to get into contact with him about what was going on. He didn't care and kept lecturing me about 48 hours notice. He then told me I cost him company 60 dollars and how horrible I am and once again unprofessional.

When i would try to defend myself he would just brow beat me some more and try to make me feel horrible. He accused me of being a scam artist (which I had no idea how I can scam him, I worked the hours I was being paid for, he had proof and I even made a lot of good transfers for him and he kept praising me saying how good I was in the beginning) and other things. He told me that if he wanted to he could deduct money from my pay check, take money away from me even though I worked the hours, because I "cost his company money" but he would never prove how I cost them money or how much, he just saying the same things over and over.

I asked him if there was this "problem" how come I wasn't informed sooner so we could get this issue straightened out so I would be paid on time and he refused to answer. Basically if I wouldn't have called about not getting paid they would have never paid me. He told me that I would no longer be working for his company but only because "in his heart" he felt like I didn't want to work there anyway when I left for a week, apparently work comes before family in his eyes. And he said he would send the check but only after I let him lecture me like a child. And "let this be a lesson to me about how to act." Last I checked he was not my father.

If he had a problem fine, I understand that and except that and I have no problems when they come to me with the problem to address it and work it out, but do NOT come to me and treat me like Anthony did, maybe he should have stopped and taken a look at the way he was talking and acting before he started calling people unprofessional. Maybe some tactfulness would have helped.

How professional is it for a company to refuse to pay someone until they get a chance to lecture them? He wants to talk about being professional, but the way he acted on the phone and the way he runs his company is very unprofessional. Telling the telemarketer to lie. Real good. Refusing to pay them until you can "chat" about how he didn't like me... So very professional. I understand if he was mad because I had to leave, but on the same foot he should understand that it was a genuine emergency and I had to leave asap.

I did appologize several times for it being such short notice but he kept on being rude and nasty to me. Why would I want to work for a company that treats its employees like that. Why would I work for a company that won't pay it's employees when they say they will because theres something about them they don't like.

The "Professional" way to handle that would be to either call me or email me immediately upon deciding there is a problem so that we can address it right away, not wait until I email you about the money and if I don't say "oh well I just won't pay you then" What a scam! Anthony Hobbs is just one big scam artist! I am a grown adult and should be treated like a grown adult and also my being paid for the hours I worked should not be placed on hold until Anthony makes time in his busy schedule to make me feel like crap. Bottom line. I worked for his company for those hours, I made those warm transfers. That money is owed to me. No where in their company policy does it state that they had deduct money from your check if they feel they lost money with you or that you check can be withheld if they just feel like lecturing you.

If you want to work for a company who is polite, professional and respects you then I would NOT advice working for this company. They candy coat everything for you up front but once you start working for them, or God forbid an emergency comes up and you have to leave, you will then see their true colors.

Now I just get to hold my breath to see if they do pay me or not. One thing for sure is I will never work for that company again and I strongly caution anyone else. This company is rude and unprofessional and deceptive.
