Scam of overinflation of price and wanted to be paid in cash

We were also scammed by Omega Van Lines, and we hope it doesn't get worse tomorrow when the truck arrives. Our move was from a 700 sq ft apartment in Maryland to Texas. We started out by talking with Rachel who told us that Izhak could come out and give us quote. The quote was $1400 when Izhak came out to look at our furniture, but ended up being over $1700. Rachel told us that if we had packing tape, the movers would use our tape and supplies, and that they would weigh the truck before our goods were loaded and after. It didn't happen. They showed up in a Budget rental truck, and refused to use our tape. They also wouldn't use our bubble wrap. They insisted on wrapping furniture with bubble wrap then blankets just to add on the cost of the bubble wrap. We have moved this same furniture several times in the past five years, and no one else had to wrap it in bubble wrap.

They over-estimated the weight of the furniture, and when it was all on the truck, they then asked for a 10-15% gratuity. We felt we had no choice; they had our life on the truck. We gave them a check for the gratuity, and a check for half of the moving cost (the other half due at delivery). The mover called today saying he would deliver the goods tomorrow and that he still had the check for the moving cost, but he would give that back to us when we handed him the $1700 in cash or he wouldn't deliver our household goods. He said he didn't have a chance to cash our check. But he certainly didn't say he didn't have time to cash the gratuity check. We were never even provided with proof of the weight of our household goods. Then we called Izhak to tell him how unsatisfied we were with the movers, and he said we were "crying" over a few dollars. He reduced the price $80. But he still reinforced the need for cash on delivery with a return of our deposit check.

This is a very deceptive moving company. We are a couple in our 50s/60s, and we couldn't handle the move alone. We trusted this company, and they were deceptive with their information and their pricing. They need to be investigated and indicted for scamming a senior citizen.
