On April 23rd, we opened our phone bill to find a charge on our home phone for a company called Voicemail Solutions. After contacting them via the phone number, listed on the phone bill (800) 460-0078, they removed the charges from my bill ($12.95) and said that someone had signed up on their website (myvoicemailprize.com) and attached our phone number to the account.
It's amazing that all someone has to do is use our phone number, and we start getting charges.
I contacted ATT about the charges and they said there was no way to prevent it in the future.
The frustrating part: If you attempt to resolve any of these problems, you must do so Monday through Friday, during normal business hours. Plus, be prepared to be on hold forever. Voicemail Solutions had me on hold for 54 minutes before I spoke to a live person.
