I just received my monthly statement from Providian Mastercard which I've had for a few years. The account has always been current and this payment is not even due yet. They put me over my credit limit by tacking on the annual fee of $59.00. Because of them doing that, they also raised my interest rate to 32.43%.
I emailed them and told them I wanted something done about that rate and they said there is no lower rate at this time for my account. Last month, I even paid them the $9.99 to make a payment by phone to ensure they would get it on time. If this is how they treat their "current" customers, I can only imagine what they do to people who run into a problem.
Does anyone know if they've been investigated or if there's any class action suits against them? At what interest rate does any of this become illegal? They're legal loansharks and something needs to be done.
