Wilkes Telephone and Electric are a monoply in their area. Since no other service is allowed in the area they charge outrageous prices. They make up their own rules as they go along. They do not stand by what they say or promise. I moved out of state and left a modem with a friend to return. Six months later I visited to find out it had not been returned. I felt horrible. I went in to the buisness office with the modem and apologized. I asked if I could pay my final bill and return the modem. The young lady at the front desk said ok. She took my payment and the modem. She said since it took so long to return it she wasn't sure how to get it off my account but that she would figure it out and to have a good holiday. It was Dec. 27. We talked for awhile since the friend that came with me brought pics of her granddaughter. As I left I again asked I am ok now correct, no more balance and she stated not to worry she would figure out how to take it off my account that they had the modem now.in the middle of April I received a notice from a collection company for the amount of $225. I called to request information on it and was told it was the phone company. I called them and they said no way would any of their employees accept the modem after four months. I said well she did and repeated what she told me. They said I was lying but they would try to find who took my last payment to prove it. They called me the next day to say they found who did and the modem. I said great take it off my account now. She said no that the lady denies saying she would take care of it. She is now stating she told me she didn't know "if" she could not she didn't know how but would figure it out. The manager told me she would send me the modem back and I must pay for it. I told her no obviously her employee made a mistake otherwise the modem would not be there. She said she didn't care that her employee made a mistake she was not standing by it. I think that this company is a complete disgrace to customer relations. If an employee makes a mistake reprimand them but stand by what they told a customer.
