Membership is free—all you need is an email address. You don't even need that to play, but if you get a membership, the website will keep track of your stats, telling you after each quiz that you have, say, 8,930 cumulative points and are in 11,560th place.
However, when you have been playing a few months and have invested a lot of time, they inform you that they "no longer have room" for your stats and that in order to keep your stats, you must purchase a membership. Now it's not an expensive membership, only $40 a year (US,) but like many other companies, it's a matter of getting that credit card number, conveniently losing your requests to unsubscribe, and charging and charging and charging your account.
This may not seem like the biggest deal in the world to people who have been ripped off really big-time, but to me, it's not just about the money. It's about the months and months of time I invested into playing the stupid games. It's the fact that this is one of the few things I do in my spare time that gives, no GAVE me any pleasure, and now it's seriously tainted for me.
So if you want to play their quizzes, realize it's not so innocent, and be glad that you'll go into it with the proper amount of cynicism that I wish I'd been smart enough to have.
