Ever notice how you can usually tell a scam by the poor English or grammar used by the perpetrator? This ad that I'm referring to showed up wed 4/16/08 on craigslist atlanta in the transport section of the jobs area:
"Nee job as a Shuttler Bus ASAP

Date: 04-16,10:35AM EDT
We need shuttler drivers that can drive a 15 passenger van to work at Atlanta's Airport for a Rental Car AGency.
It's an afternoon job, And you can start right away
You need to have clean background and valid driver license. If you are interested in this position please give me a call to 214-635-4488 or send me an e-mail [email protected]
* Compensation: between 8 and 9
* Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster.
* Please, no phone calls about this job!
* Please do not contact job poster about other services, products or commercial interests."
Aside from the obvious typos; there are several differences between what it says in the ad, what you are told on the interview, and what they will actually have you doing.
First and most importantly, the job is not driving a shuttler (they probably meant shuttle) van, second you DON'T get paid by the hour, you get paid according to how many cars you drive back to the rental center. Third, it IS NOT an afternoon job, you are required to be there at 8:30 AM during the week, and 7:00 AM on the weekends (if you work weekends). The trick is you are not paid ANYTHING until you are shuttled to the airport (or somewhere else, like Chattanooga) and actually drive a vehicle back to the rental agency. Or if they use you to drive vehicles around the lot; re-parking them, driving them from the washing section to the parts and maintenance etc..
The bottom line is this: you can't tell someone to show up somewhere at 7:00 or 8:00 in the morning and then have them sit around and wait for a ride to somewhere else and then make money... THATS DISHONEST!!! This is the classic definition of bait and switch... Why wouldn't these lying scumbags state exactly what the job involved in the ad? Probably for the same reason they didn't bother to run spell check; they just didn't care and they are targeting people who are desperate for jobs and apparently couldn't get anything else. I thought I was that desperate but, I'd rather work in fast food; Why? No chance of messing up my license flipping burgers; plenty chance of messing up my license trying to drive into and out of a parking lot full of people rushing to pick up cars because that's how they make their money.
