I needed to make a move from Maryland to Utah. I thought I was doing my homework and shopped around, checked usacomplaints.com, checked DOT, etc. For companies that may be best to make a rather small move across the country. I contacted several companies, then I came across Atrans, what a mistake!
I told Guy (the man that was assisting me) what I had, which was just a master bedroom full of stuff, and told him that it was a rather small move. He quoted me 1000.00 for 2000 pounds of stuff. I agreed to this as it wasn't even going to weigh that much. When the two men showed up to pack my items, the one informed me that the weigh station was three hours away, so I didn't go with them to weigh my stuff. Big Mistake!
When I called them the next day, they informed me that my stuff weighed more than 3500 pounds. When I wanted them to go weigh it again, they refused. I told guy that this was not correct and that I wanted to speak to a manager, he then put the owner on the phone. When speaking with him, he was rude inconsiderate and didn't want to hear my complaint. He demanded 1925.00 for this move and I told him that I wanted this to be reweighed, again he refused to do it.
He then said that he could do the move for 1800.00 and that I had to pay 60% of the full bill before they would even leave their warehouse. I had no choice to pay it, since I needed my stuff to be delivered. Upon delivery, the driver came by hisself and refused to call for the labor to come assist him in unloading my items. I ended up calling my nephews to come help unload the truck. (Unloading and reassembling the furniture was supposedly included in the price quoted)
After unloading the items and taking inventory of my stuff, there are 6 boxes missing and 7 items damaged or completely broke. I have called several times to file a claim and they won't answer the phone nor call me back. The price of the damages way outweigh the price of the move, so I have been doubley duped. I have filed a dispute with my bank for the visa charges and I have filed a compaint with the government at protectyourmove. Gov and I have contacted the BBB.
