On February 27 I was on my break as a cashier at the Wal-Mart Superstore (Store # 2577) in Cockeysville, Maryland. I heard a child crying inside a parked van on the lot. On closer inspection, I noticed that the child had been left alone in the car. It was very cold outisde and concerned for the child's safety, I dialed 911 and asked that the police be sent.
The police came and spoke to me. I don't know if the child's parents were located. The next day, I was called in to Manager Dave Casey's office where I was terminated. He said that my employment was terminated because I was unauthorized to call police. I told him that the safety of a child was at risk and he had the audacity to say that he DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF A CHILD OR ANYONE ELSE!
I am now considering contacting an attorney to sue Wal-Mart for wrongful termination and I believe that I have a case since I was reporting a possible crime.
Next time you want to shop at Wal-Mart, pause for a minute and take into consideration their utter comtempt for children, for their employees and the public at large.
