Unwilling to see if a problem may be on their end

I just read another woman's article from Bakersfield about PG&E and was amazed that she knew my story!

The first year living in my new, energy efficient home, after 9 mos received a $980 bill for one month of an energy bill! I was mortified. Our bills up to that month were averaging to be about $300 per month. But $980? I thought there HAD to be something wrong. A mistake was made, I was sure!

I called PG&E and spoke with a woman who was refusing to see if maybe there was a problem on their end. She told me that they recommend you keep your air conditioning at 86 degrees. EIGHTY SIX Degrees, yes you read that right. Okay, again, I live in BAKERSFIELD. It is HOT here. 86 would not cut it while you are home in 110 degree weather. That is completely unreasonable.

I have never heard of such an expensive bill. She refused to send somebody out to check our meters. I made three subsequent phone calls until they finally agreed to send somebody to check our meter. Of course, there were no problems identified with our meter.

What I don't understand is that we have not done anything substantially different and we have never seen such a high bill since. Even in the hottest month of summer my highest bill since that time has been around $400. How is it there was nothing wrong with my meter if I haven't seen a bill like that since? I don't get it. What upsets me more is they were so reluctant to help me and kept saying it was something we did. Our home is only about 2700 SF. I could see a 4000 SF home having a bill that high, but still believe there was something wrong that month.

I still feel my blood boil just writing about this again. Frustrating!
