Some of these companies that claim to assist the needy and unfortunate appear to be
"scams" - pure and simple. Helping Hands of Hope, along with some of the other organizations have a modus operendi that is quite similar.

They will call, and ask for the person by first name only, and when asked who is calling,
they respond with only a given name, followed - witthout a pause with something like,
" this is Mark from the handicapped organization. Remember, I spoke to you about six
months ago, and you said we could call you after a given date so that you can place another order with us for our trash bags, long-lasting light bulbs or other products, and then we will take you off of our calling list, because you have certainly helped us out for a few years"

True, I have helped some of these organizations, only to discover that they never cease
calling, even after I have informed them that I have been on both the state and national
Donot call registry for quite sometime - with E-mail confirmation. Their response is usually: " We don't see you on this list. If you were, we would have it, and not call, for fear of being fined. Whoever told you that you were on some national list was just fooling you".

The calls continue, and they usually instruct you to make a Western Union moneytransfer, even giving you the 800 number. They may end the conversation by letting you know that you can expect a call from them in fifteen minutes so that you can
give them the Money Transfer Control Number, so that an individual can receive the
funds at the nearest Western Union station.

The designated resipient is always an individul, and not an organizatio.

This activity seems to be concentrated in the state of Arizona - especially in the cities of
Phoenix, Mesa and Tucson. The main recipients are: Jacquelyn Ann Purdy, Mark A. Stankey, Suzanne B. Logan and Richard D. DeLeo.

When they call, they are usually requesting sums of $100.00 - $400.50 for the products.
There is always a caveat, that if the funds are not forwarded (usually within the hour),
the account will go into collections, wirh a fee of $200.00.
