ProtectAmerica an online home security company was very misleading. I signed up for a service online and received bulk emails from lots of companies and many phone calls to my cell phone. ProtectAmerica was one of them and since I was looking in to security systems I signed up for their service. I was informed over the phone that the system had a seven day after installation cancellation agreement. After my husband found out about the system he urged me to return it. The system had not even been opened from the packaging. I was informed when I called to cancel the service that my seven days had expired even though I never had the system installed.
I was harassed several times a day on my voicemail to install the system. I informed the callers that I didn't want to continue my service and I didn't appreciate being harassed over the phone. I was charged a non refundable 79.85 and 29.99 service fee for a service I never received. I will never sign up with an online anything ever again. The customer service people were very pushy on the phone and pressured me to purchase the system when I really did not want to purchase it. The only reason I agreed to purchase the equipment was because I was told over the phone by a customer service assistant that the system could be returned after installation. Of course, when I called to cancel they said I was misinformed and that I signed an online agreement that informed me of the cancellation process.
I am guilty of being an ignorant consumer, who was duped out of $125. This was a costly mistake.
