I signed up with Protect America, Inc in December for a security system. The contract was for 3 years. However, I was told my a sales representative that should I elect to cancel the contract prior to the 3 years, I could and pay a cancellation fee. It was my understanding the fee was $300, which was pretty steep but I thought I could live with that. Now, after paying 16 months of my contract, I have decided to cancel the service for various reasons. The customer service representatives I spoke with on the phone were extremely rude about the situation and I can't even believe it is legal to force someone to pay such an outrageous cost to cancel service. I agree that I should pay a penalty, but I was told something different upon initially signing up than what I'm being told today. I'm absolutely furious. This company makes a significant amount out of cheating their customers with the 'terms of their agreement'. It's completely wrong and I hope others will read this post prior to agreeing to service contracts with the company. They will do anything and everything to cheat you out of money. And should there be a valid reason for you to no longer require service, they WILL NOT work with you in any way shape or form. It's repulsive.
