Wow. Imagine my surprise when, as a result of an unrelated incident, I found that this CIC Credit Monitoring Service has been charging my mastercard $9.95 per month since August 1995!
I called the company immediately and told them to stop my service. The customer service rep, "Julia, " tried telling me that they've been sending "credit report updates" to me at my old AOL address. HUH? Then tried to tell me how I should keep the service. I'm not sure what her sales pitch would've been, but I stopped her short by saying that I am aware of my rights and know I can go to the credit bureaus once per year and get a TRULY FREE credit report without having to give my credit card number or anything else.
I was also told that if I want a refund I have to send a letter to their "Consumer Relations Group." I'm sure my letter will go into a black hole somewhere. They've been charging me, without my authorization, for two years. Do I have any claim? Can I expect to get my money back? What is the most aggressive way I can pursue this?
Oh, and for anyone interested, the address is:
