In May I signed a contract with NorthStar Alarm, which I thought it stated I could not cancel my contract with them for 3 years or I would be subject to breach of contract and would have to pay the balance of that contract. On May 7 I cancelled my service with them and they say I cannot do that without a 60 day notice (in writing) because my contract automatically renewed on the 3rd of May and is enforce for 1 year. They have a legal team that says I must pay for the balance of that contract which is 40.95x12=$491.40 for a service I no longer have or want.
I have tried the better business or Utah, the Michigan Attorney General office and have called an arbitrator that is sending them a letter to see if we can come up with a more amicible agreement. Their offer was a settlement of $428.88. I don't agree with that at all.
At the time of cancellation I didn't owe any deliquent charges or fees. The contract is written front and back 8x14 legal paper (pink) type is very small I think it's called "pica" and the paragraphs for "auto renewal" and " 1 year increment" should be in BOLD print and their agents should make those issues extremely clear at the time of signing this unethical contract.
I feel the contract is written for their protection only and the consumer will suffer if they wish to cancel.
I feel they owe me and others like myself an apology for trying to scam us with " you are in breach of contract and you owe us money"
