Metro Paramedics
Ambulance Service No Service $600 Fee? Ripoff

At College lecture I passed out then woke up and threw up. (I had not been feeling well ever since I woke up an unwisely still decided to attend lecture)

The Professor called the nurses office who then called 911 (I presume) The paramedics arrived they talked to me (asked the date and day of week) then they had a blood pressure monitor/pulse rate device that they said we are just going to hook this up to me and just do some standard vitals OK? I said sure.

The paramedics and school nurse recommended I go to the hospital so they could give me some flu medicine. I declined to go. Then they told me I needed to sign on a tablet to decline services which I did.

I have since recieved bills for $600 for a response charge. I have contacted them and explained to them I did not place the call and also declined services so what am I being charged for? They say regardless of who calls and whether or not the "patient" declines services the "patient" is responsible for a response charge. I was also told this by the supervisor when I asked to talk with them.

I filed a complaint with the BBB and recieved this response from Metro Paramedics:

"I will review the account in question and have a response to you within 10 days. At a quick glance of the patients account, he has talked with our staff a few times including a supervisor. They have pulled the medical records and it was billed correctly the patient was offered a payment plan to resolve his claim prior to going to external collections. Let me pull the medical records once again to review that we have billed this correctly."

Thank You,

Wesley VanValkenburg, EMT-P

Billing Manager

As you see they claim I have talked with them a few times when in actuality I only talked with 2 people on one occasion. They also have on my bill the responded to my home/residence (I go to a commuter school) They are not good with getting thier facts straight.

They say they have billed me correctly, but for what? For somebody calling them they take 2 minutes and hook up a machine and think the person should pay $600?

Their idea of resoultion is to offer a payment plan. They have proceded to send this to an external collection company who has been very nasty.

Stay away from this company!
