I ordered ONLY ONE TIME (non-recurring billing) yet they kept charging until I cancelled my card and then they turned me to a collection agency

I really need your help in dealing with these crooks posing as legitimate business! I don't know what to do.

In the late fall of last year, I'd ordered ONE single box of Proactiv. I used a debit card to order and paid for the product in full. I do not have bad acne but I thought it may help on those days when I do. After being billed, I'd recieved my box of this "magical crap" which doesn't work for me at all.

However, I'd decided that I wasn't going to send it back for refund because I generally don't like to return merchandise unless I paid a small fortune for it and it turned out to be a wrong size. Who knows, maybe this stuff really does work for other people? I just decided not to deal with them again in the future.

Well, then I started noticing that every month on my check card statement, I had a charge from Proactiv Solution. However I know I specifically indicated "no recurring billing" when I initially ordered. I also never recieved another box of Proactiv in the mail so I didn't know what I was getting billed for every month. Air?

At the end of last year I had to cancel my check card and order a new one because of these strange charges and some other non-related suspicious activity on my account.in the begining of this year I'd moved and asked the Post Office to forward my mail. Sometimes it takes an extra month to recieve letters sent to the old address but I still recieve them all eventually.

Earlier this week I got a collection notice in the mail stating that I OWE $67.90 to the Proactiv Solution and that they themselves have tried several times to collect this fee from me but their attempts failed. Not true! I'd never recieved anything from Proactiv since that one box they'd sent me. The notice also stated that if I hadn't filed for bankrupcy, which I didn't, they were requesting that I pay over the phone using a credit card or mail this collection agency a check. (you know that funny little piece of paper that states your account number and routing number which in the future they can use again and again to bill me since they don't even need your check number these days.)

It also says that if I don't dispute this notice within 30 days of recieving it, (note: date on the notice May 30 and it is now June) the notice will stick to me and I'll be obligated to pay. I called the agency attempting to dispute and they said that I need to repot this "undelivery" of mail to the post office and also fax them my bank statement indicating that I did indeed pay them for the December shipment.

I am SO confused! I didn't order anything from them in December. I only ordered one time back in October! How can I show I paid for something when during that time I was waiting for my new check card to arrive in the mail and my old one had the Bank block on it because of strange activity?

I am still a young person and have noone to ask about how this process works and how this may reflect on my credit, or if it would at all since I do not have credit history yet. So, maybe someone could please explain to me what will happen to me if I refuse to pay? If I do pay them, I know I'd be running the risk of having them send another collection notice next month and then another one after that, or they'll simply just continue charging my bank account without my consent.

What should I do?
