I was going through a tough time with impending separation from my husband, home sale, and life threatening illness. I choose to hirer a professional moving company.
I contacted Authorized Movers on July 14 with an estimated move date of July 18th. I had sold my home in Wellington, FL and was moving to a rental home in Juno Beach, FL Authorized movers estimated 26 total miles
The Estimate dated 7-14 included excerpts as follows:
Written estimate:
1 truck, 3 men at 3.0 hours x $85 per hour
1 hour travel $85
Total was $340
"The estimate represents a full service move, which includes the following:
Pick up and Delivery'
Labor and Unloading
Disassemble Moving Blankets and tape
Tolls
Basic valuation protection of $. 60 per pound"
"This estimate Excludes the following:
Packing supplies
(Boxes Sofa and Mattress Covers, Bubble wrap)
Redelivery from Storage
Estimate is Based on Hourly rate
With a 4 hour minimum"
My rental fell through and I notified the Authorized Movers that I would be moving my stuff in temporarily to my friends garage in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This move was scheduled for 7-27.
I issued two credit card payments over the phone for $500 on 7-25
and $50 on 5-27
These were paid to Authorized Movers or so I thought (Showed up as New Destiny Movers the following statement)
I had packed and boxed, However I had not wrapped my Pictures
The truck arrived late and only had 2 men. I was surprised it had the name New Destiny Movers. Again I Reiterated that the drive would be less miles and everything would be moved into a garage that was clean and empty
I told them that we needed to hurry because my place needed to be cleaned for the new owners before they took possession the next day.
They took a lot of breaks and told me I would need to have my pictures boxed. They were very unprofessional and I felt I had to watch them. After pushing them along we finally arrived at the location almost six hours later. I had been helping against my doctors orders for the past 6 hours but thought that unloading would be quick with less than 5 feet to unload from the truck. It was in a clean garage and it was in the shade.
They then dropped a bombshell! I owned them an additional $1450 dollars and that whey would only take cash. I was shocked and tired. My friend arrived and saw I was visibly upset and sick looking
I made my bank 5 minutes before they closed. I was so upset. They dropped items and finally worked at breakneck speed. I was never so relieved when the left. I felt very violated.
My friend called the company numerous times after I was hospitalized to no avail. The paperwork they gave me is illegible. There was no breakdown of costs.
I am only pursuing this because as a disabled person I feel that its was wrong. I also didn't know of the amount of complaints like mine.
Two weeks latter I moved to my new apartment which was on the 8th floor in Palm Beach At this time many items where noticed crushed and scrapped However the total move with 1 truck and 2 men was less that $500.
