I recently called to sign up for an account. I was disconnected before finishing the process and before I was able to inform the representative that I had changed by mind. She had failed to mention earlier that I would be required to set up a direct debit. She set up the account anyways.
When I called in on Monday (the earliest that department was open) I was told that they could not cancel my account and refund my money for another 24 hours because the computer system would not let them. This is an extremely poor way of running a business. It is obvious that this policy is simply a way of ensuring that either the customer forgets about the issue or they receive a little extra interest from having the customer's money sitting in their bank account.
