We had Dish Network for a couple of years and was satisfied with the company. However we wanted to add MLB Extra Innings and Dish Network didn't have it we switched to DIRECTV. My husband called DIRECTV in April '07 to inquire about their service and was told on the phone that the monthly fee (of the regular program that we wanted) would be $39.99 - based on regular programming fee of $49.99 less $10.00 immediate rebate. At this price, we would get two standard digital receivers. (We also would pay four extra payments of $39.99 each for the MLB package, which is not a problem here.) We were asked to register the $10 rebate which I promptly did online as soon as the service was installed in early May.

The 1st bill came with the full monthly program fee of $49.99 and an additional $4.99 for the supposedly 2nd "Leased Receiver". Multiple contacts have been made to DIRECTV to have the bills reflect the rebate thereby reducing monthly fee to $39.99 but we have been unsuccessful; their contention was the rebate is being processed. When inquired about the $4.99 fee for the 2nd receiver, Customer Service replied that the rep on the phone miscommunicated, but nothing they could do... It's 10 weeks since the rebate was submitted and we just received the 3rd bill, and no rebate has been applied. We're unhappy with DIRECTV and interested in canceling the service (there's a 1-yr contract) based on breach of oral contract.
