I sought services for eye care at the Florida Eye Center in St Petersburg Florida on 6/16/06. I saw the eye doctor who wrote me a prescription for eye glasses. I was then directed to a gentleman that would help me select my frames. I presented him with my insurance card through EyeMed. He then contacted the plan and told me what the plan would pay for. I picked out frames based on this information. I paid what I owed via check and used my debit card to pay for the eye exam, based on the information that the employees gave me.
Almost one year later (3/5/07), I received a bill stating I owed them $110.00. I tried to explain to two different people on several occasions that I was quoted a certain amount and paid in full before I left the premises; it is not my fault that they made an error and my insurance did not pay all of what I was told it would.
One year later you can't submit a claim to the insurance company to expect them to pay the claim, nor should you a expect a consumer to be billed a year later for a balance owed because their employees are incompetent. This is their job to verify what my insurance would pay. Shame on them for going oops we made a mistake we need more money from you.
Bottom line: don't go to florida eye center, unless you want to be billed more money than was originally stated and be harrassed and turned over to collections one year later. Their business practices suck!!!
