Fraudulent Sales and Billing Practices Palatine

Recently, I asked Embarq to separate my Dish Network billing out from my phone bill. I had a package deal that included phone, DSL, and Satellite through Embarq. I couldn't tell what was what on my bill because Sprint was changing to Embarq and the bills online were late being posted and it seemed like my bill kept increasing.

At the point that billing was separated, I had Dish for approximately 15 months.initially, Dish told me that my contract was for 12 months. Later I found out they lied and that my contract was for 18 months. The lying did stop there. We they installed my dual receiver, they used a DVR box I didn't ask for and I was being charged $5 extra for that. When I asked them to switch out the box because I didn't ask for DVR they told me there would be a $200 equipment charge to do so. I was also unaware prior to installation that I had to pay a $5 telephone access fee if I did not have a phone line hooked into the satellite box.

Anyway, when the billing was separated, Dish started my contract period all over again. No one at Embarq or Dish informed me of this, not on the phone, not in the mail, nothing — it must have been a big secret. Thinking my contract was almost up, I was going to switch service and found out that I couldn't because I was in a new contract I didn't know about. I asked Dish to cancel my service without penalty because I was not aware I was in a new contract. They said they would — but I am leary and skeptical because they can't be trusted. When I asked them to cancel, they wanted a credit or debit card number to run to verify who I was, and to ensure that I would turn the receiver in so I gave it to them. They said my card would only be charged one dollar as part of the verification process, so like an idiot I gave them the number.

The next day, my account was charged $119.00. I was in disbelief. Additionally, when I tried to call and get it straightened out I was passed around, transferred from one person to another, and told nothing could be done because the charge was still in pending status with them.

Tomorrow I am filling out a dispute application with my bank, and will probably spend additional time with the Credit Bureau. No one at Dish will call me back. Hopefully my bank will just credit my card and I will NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH DISH AGAIN! I am already envisioning my next nightmare, that DISH puts something on my credit report because even though they said I could cancel, they are just making that up to punish me later for spite. We all need to band together against this company. Something needs to be done to stop them against their fraudulent practices.
