You see an offer for a company that will "save you hundreds of dollars on your home and personal expenses". The cost, BTW, which is not real easy to find on the site is $96/yr. The page proceeds to explain the 30 day resk free trial, during which you can cancel and "You'll even get to keep the $200 in FREE gasoline rebates as our gift to you!"
Sounds good to me. Well, I just got my membership info in the mail. About that gasoline deal. I hope none of you intend to give this a try solely because of a delusion of free gas. You must submit a survey to receive your rebate certificates in the mail, which are then redeemable every 10 days for nearly 1 year. The survey says to wait 4 - 6 weeks for delivery of these certificates. The form asks for your membership # and states: "You must be an active member at time of redemption" Well what does that mean, I wondered.
Do you see my concern yet? An eensy weensy catch 22. I should expect rebate certificates in the mail in 4 - 6 weeks. I must be an "active member" for them to be worth anything, but I have 30 days in which to cancel my membership and not be charged $96. How can they say that I get to keep the $200 in Free gasoline rebates as a gift to me if I can't redeem them once I cancel membership?
I called the 1-800 # provided, to find out, and talked to Linda. She informed me that while I must be actively a member to benefit from the gas deal, I could cancel my membership for up to one year and have my account credited the full $96."Cool, where does it say that?" I asked. "Well that is just how we do it" she replied. WHATEVER
You draw your own conclusions! I will call the 1-800 cancellation # immediately, and hopefully it will all end painlessly and w/o the $96 ever being charged to my card. Otherwise, I will let ya know!!
