Many people have already described Hoffman's scheme, and my wife was just one more victim from late in 2003. I am also one of over 200 people who complained to the attorney general in CT and the CT Dept of Consumer Protection. I'm very happy to report that the attorney general has filed a law suit against the company and its owner. This deceptive business practice has been going on for many years, and I complained over 3 years ago... But it's nice to see that Justice can be done, even if it takes some time.
You can find the article through a google search on the following key words: Sunrise Herb hoffman law suit
One of the articles states that customers of Sunrise Herbal Remedies or Sage Advice can get information about the lawsuit filed against the company and its owner by calling the State Attorney General's office in Connecticut... Look them up on the web, too.
If our experience is a good indication, then the 200 complaints to the state probably represent over 2,000 wronged customers, since my wife was the only one out of more than 10 friends that got wrongly charged after visiting her "farm" in Bethel. Perhaps its time for a class action...
More good news is that the owner told a reporter in Maine at ellsworthmaine.com that she has stopped the auto-ship program and is no longer going to be involved with the company, but is in Palm Beach FL doing something completely different... Retirees in FL, beware!
