Lowes Consumer Credit
Credit Line Amount Promised, then Denied 7 days later Ripoff

We promise... To make empty promises. This statement would best summarize my experience with Lowe's Consumer Credit. On February 10, I applied for a Lowe's consumer credit card and was approved for a credit line of $725.00. I immediately expressed that this amount was too low for the purchase that I intended to make, and therefore requested an increase to $6,000.00. Lowe's counteroffered $2,000, which I accepted. I was told that the credit line would be effective "immediately".

Upon my return to the store seven (7) days later, the credit line remained at $725.00. The store manager contacted consumer credit and found that the consumer credit division had no record of increasing my credit line to $2,000. I explained to the manager that although I understand credit is based on credit worthiness, the fact remains that I was promised a credit line of $2,000 that was effective immediately seven (7) days earlier, yet, the store has no record of changing the credit line to what was originally promised. The store manager explained that I would receive a letter indicating the reasons for the decision in seven (7) to ten (10) business days.

Since I was extremely upset about the situation, I pressed the issue and indicated that in the era of technology, I should have the reason immediately. I then spoke with the associate from the Consumer Credit Division and I was told that my "credit worthiness" may have changed within 7 days! I explained that I have not applied for any credit, and confirmed through my credit monitoring service that no suspicious activity occurred. I relayed this information to the associate at Consumer Credit Division who told me that I would need to take it up with the credit bureaus.

Bottom Line: I have never received a concrete answer as to why I was promised something and the terms and conditions changed in seven days. The simple resolution would be for Lowe's to simply grant me what they initially promised - a credit line of $2,000.00. Although I am thoroughly disgusted with the consumer credit division, the people at the Concord, NH store have done everything that they possibly could to rectify the situation. Given my recent experience, I believe that the Lowe's Consumer Credit Division must mission statement that obviously includes making empty promises to customers.
