Freedom Moving And Storage
Lost items, damaged items, overcharged

My trouble with Freedom Moving began when they failed to show up at the scheduled time of pick up. No one called to notify me that the pick up time would be later than originally stated. Only after I contacted Moving Kingdom did a representative from Freedom Moving contact me.

Because I had already moved out of town, I had arranged for a friend to be available as my representative when the movers arrived. Freedom Moving did not arrive until the day after they had been scheduled which was extremely inconvenient for my friend who was also moving and facing a deadline for being out of the residence. The Freedom Moving dispatch coordinator was very rude to my friend on the phone. Freedom Moving not only showed up a day late, but they also arrived later in the day than scheduled that day. When the driver did arrive, he failed to weigh my load as stated in the moving contract. I was then charged an additional $500 for additional cubic feet. I was assured that this cost would be removed at the time of my delivery when my load was weighed. I did speak with Maria at Freedom Moving at this point to assure that the charge would indeed be removed. She quickly assured me that it would be taken care of as the driver had said. My belongings were then taken to Freedom Moving's warehouse in Atlanta, Georgia where they were stored for three months.

As I prepared to schedule my delivery, it was extremely difficult to get in touch with anyone at Freedom Moving. When I did get in touch with Maria in dispatch, we discussed my work schedule and the times that I would be available to receive the load. When Maria called to schedule my move, it was planned for a time during which I had previously told her that I would not be available because of my work schedule. The time frame given to me was of a time frame of 3 days with no guarantee of which day the truck would be arriving. I was told that this 3-day period was being given to me as my 24-hour notice of delivery. Finally, I was able to arrange a specific date of delivery and because I could not be available, I arranged for a family member to come and receive the load. Less than 24 hours before the scheduled time of the move Freedom Moving left a voicemail on my phone rescheduling the move for 12 hours earlier than planned, leaving me with less than a 24 hour notice to prepare for the delivery. Because the relative who had planned to be at the delivery lives out of town, it was not possible for them to be there and I had to leave work to be at the delivery, which was also later than the scheduled time.

Just prior to the delivery, I reminded Maria of the $500 charge that was to be removed and the need for the load to be weighed. Maria responded that she, "wished she had known about this sooner", even though I had previously spoken with her about this, as I mentioned. I was told that my load was already being sent and that if I did not pay the full amount at the time of delivery (with the additional charge) my load would be returned to the warehouse and I would be charged for not accepting the load as scheduled. Because it was after hours, Maria sent me an email from her personal account stating that I would agree to pay the entire amount, with the additional charge, until my load could be weighed upon delivery and that if the actual weight was within the original limit I would be compensated. At present, I have never received the weight of my load. Maria will not respond to my phone calls or emails.

I received no paperwork at the time of delivery. Upon inspection of my belongings, I noticed that nearly every item that came off the truck was damaged in some way. Even boxes and plastic bins had dents in them. As I began to unpack, I have also realized that I am missing items; boxes furniture, etc. I attempted to contact someone at Freedom Moving about my lost items and was told that I would have to file a claim. Considering that the items were being stored with Freedom Moving and Storage and are identified with a lot number, it seems that these items should be easy to locate within their warehouse. However, I was told that my only course of action was to file a claim and wait 30 to 90 days for a response.
