Almost Got Ripped By Fraudulent Company / California

I almost got ripped off by these fake S.O. B's. Good thing I have learned to check into companies before getting involved. I received a letter from this Atlantic Lottery Corporation stating I had won a sum of $240,000.00 and along with it accompanied a check in the amount of $4,845.00.

The letter stated not to cash the check until I contacted some guy named Mr. Jason Williams for further clarification and instructions on claiming my winning. It was signed at the bottom by a Promotion Manager named Michael Anderson.

So i contacted this Mr. Williams whom instructed me to take it to my bank and deposit the funds then call him back with further instructions. Because $2,750.00 of this was to western unioned or moneygramed for taxing purposes. So I said ok then started checking this place out to find out if they were legitt.

I got online with rippoff.com and found someone else with similar situation and did the same as they did; icalled this bank on the check (San Joaquin Bank 1000 Truxtun Ave, Bakersfield CA.) and they confirmed the check was a fake, they said it was a stamp. But in doing so I also Called their Main Branch (1301 17th Street) they also varified my suspicions.

So thank you to the other couple who had posted there rippoff concern but also to the banks who saved my bank account.

Could you imagine what would of happened if either myself or the other couple would have deposited these fraudulant checks into our bank accounts!!!
