Packed and loaded belongings were then taken away from SF Bay Area. Recevied a call two days later informing me that there was a "weight overage" and $1,500 more cash CASH cash would be due on delivery. Along with the threat that if the truck was delayed for non-payment I would be charged $75/ hour more or $750 if they had to wait till overnight (till Mon. When the banks would be open to allow the hold-up cash withdrawal of the amount demanded).
Is this legal? But of course ON the moving day I'm thinking I should get an Attorney before hand. No. Not even close to being on the radar. It is now 12 hrs before delivery is due. Only hope is that the stated weight is wrong. This means finding and driving to a certified truck weighing station Sunday at 8 am, 50 miles and an hour away, weighing the moving van, driving another 50 miles and an hour back to my place with them following, unpacking, and (joy) going back when we're done to weigh again and hope there's a major difference from what's being represented.
