Persistant Calling, nagging, attempts to "offer services"

I too have for the past week been getting phone calls from this company, and after reading the "script" from the ex-employee of this company, I can recall my first phone call with this company, through the script he offered - almost word for word (even the question about the weather - which really made it clear it was in fact this company that had phoned me)

The caller using the above mentioned scripted, tried to entice me to the 60 months free mags in exchange for the 3.98 a week "processing fees". Seeing as I have already paid for 5 years with my current company, I declined the offer. Which, after reading the posts on this company, I am very happy I did not take them up on this offer. Not thinking too much at the time this I had forgotten the matter.

A couple days after that first phone call from Magazine Services, my correct company I am getting magazines from issued me a call (as they do every couple of months) to inquery on my service I am recieving from them. I then asked them if they are connected in anyway to a company in Florida - with the weather question, I had remembered that Magazine Company was based in Floria, as the caller had told me what the weather was like there. (I had forgotten the name of the company that had called, since I pretty much had forgotten the call until my correct magazine company called me)

The rep told me no, and asked if I had accepted this other company's offer, which I hadn't. The rep adviced me to just inform this other company, if they ever called back that to use a few questions and tactics to insure they are legit.

- Ask them what magazines you had subscriptions to
- What the parent company was you had my subscriptions too (i.E. Who I had placed my original order with)
- Make them provide information to you about yourself - a legit company won't need your information to "update/verify your information/account/file"
- and of course the common sense rule - if it sounds too good to be true, its not true

Well today Magazine Services called me and after idenifying who they were, I informed them that they were not the company with whom my subscriptions are with. (No, I did not inform them who my company is in case they try to use it in the future if they attempt to call me again) The rep from Magazine Services replied to me that NO they are not connected to my other company but are contracted out "take care of special promotions and offers for them" and if I had any questions to call their 800 number (which she didn't provide me with).

When I attempted to question her more on how they got my information, she repeatly resorted to the "call our 1-800 number if you have any questions concerning your account" answer then ended the phone call and hung up on me.

That is when I did a web search on the company and found this site and all the posts regarding this company. I am so thankful that I did not reveal any information to Magazine Services and for the advice from my proper company on tactics and questions to ask of these scam companies.
