Due to an eviction, Midtown Moving & Storage Company was given the right by the Marshal and/or landlord to take all my property out of my apartment and to their storage location. However, they asked the building security chief to sign their blank inventory list and he signed it by mistake (should have signed it AFTER it was completed) and they went ahead and listed about half my property (stole the rest?) and listed everything as broken. They didn't know I had a copy of the Marshal's inventory that listed twice as much property and all in good condition. So in one business day my property was reduced to about half and now all in broken condition. Upon paying them $ 500 and signing a release (that's not dated and I guess void), on 8/15/06 what was left of my property, was returned to me. Everything of value was missing and mostly everything else was broken or damaged. I recieved only 75 out of 90 cartons back and alot of my larger items were just missing. Listing everything at new value, my losses are over $ 229,000.00 There are two crimes here, one the missing property and second, due to very poor packing, most everything came back broken or damaged so they didn't do the job they were paid to do and that's handle my property with care and give it back to me in the good condition I left it in.
