I contacted Freedom Moving and Storage around 8/1 to move me from Memphis, TENNESSEE to Martinsburg, WEST VIRGINIA because my employer relocated me abruptly. Prior to going with the company I contacted other reputable companies, but their estimates couldn't beat the online quote I got from Freedom Moving and Storage. I was a bit hesitant about going with the company because I'd read usacomplaints.com reported by the other consumer that filed a report about this company. After calculating the cost of the move, I decided that financially this comapny would be the one I'd use for relocation.
The original quote given by Shibohan (employee) was $1500 based on a Mayflower moving estimate that was faxed in. I added a sofa, loveseat, mattress, boxspring, coffee table, end table, and five medium boxes to the order the day the movers arrved. The price increased dramatically to $2700.
My employer paid the company $750 based on the original quote and they maied me the other $750 check to give to the movers once the arrived here in WV. The movers picked my furniture up from Memphis on 8/26 and it was supposed to be delivered immediately (within 7 - 10 business days). I got my furniture on 9/21/06 which is 26 days later from the pickup date.
I called in between these days and the company gave me the run around. When they finally came to deliver it was 9:00 pm, they didn't want to show me my furniture untl the bill was settled. The driver requested that I pay him the remainder in CASH. When I told them that I had the $750 check frm my employer and I was going to write a check for $1985 he became irate and pulled off with my furniture after talking with the owner of the comany Hiam E. I had to call the State Polce for them to escort the truck back to my place.
I told the driver that I only had very little cash and would pay him that in place of the $75 extra he wanted for climbing the stairs. He neglected to hear anything other than what he requested. He called the OWNER Hiam E. Several times for instructions. The police made them show me my furniture on the truck and further advised that they cold not interfere in such a matter considering civil mishaps.
After speaking with the owner of the comapany he stated that I should wire the remaining funds via Western Union to Atlanta and he would give the driver the okay to unload. I followed his instructions because I wanted to get one good night of rest after paying rent for a furnitureless place and staying in a hotel. (Now its around 12 am, and the delievery guys would not unload until Hiam received the money in hand at Western Union.
I gave him the confirmation code and all. Fortunately he did accept the check from my employer and at 2 am he received the funds and instructed the delivery guys to unload. Needless, to say several of my items did not make thetrip and I'm sti in search of them; others were ruined, and Freedom Moving and Storage received ALL of their money.
Hear me out! PLEASE do not go for Cheap because this company is a CHEAT. You will not get the service that thousands of dollars should get you. Please don't trust this COMPANY in your house nor in route to your new home becase your furniture may never arrive. I trusted them and I was RIPPEDOFF!
