I started on 06/14 and was assigned to a fashion designers distribution center in West Chester Ohio. On my first day at orintation, I read a book and took a test. My background and driver's license was pulled and pictures was taken for my licence (Which I never got) My understanding that I was going to patrol on foot and by car.
It took 6 hours that day (which I never got paid for) and was handed some uniforms from a black garbage bag. Never was given a badge, I was given 3 shirts but was handed the patches to have a dry cleaner sew the patches on for me at my expense. The pants was new but there also I would of had to pay to have them hemmed. I never got a name tag neither.
All I went to work on my first day with was a white shirt which was a men's size 17 1/2 which I am 5'3 and the shirt hung to my knees and very bulky when tucked into my pants which also was a man's size 38. Also too big. I was given a belt and by the time I put it all together, everything was bulging and very bulky looking. I had to buy my own socks, shoes, and notepads before I even got started or paid.
I was paid $9.00 and hour, with no benefits for the first 90 days. I worked for 3 weeks before my first check which was for a small amount at first. I was passed around like yesterdays garbage due to there was no one to train me for the position. I was put into a guard shack in the back of a million square foot building, into the shipping and receiving area.
My job was to take inventory of all trucks coming and going on the property. And to put 20lb locks on the trailers that are full and staying on property. I was to also cut off seals off the trucks with large bolt cutters. To do this I would have to climb onto the back bumper and cut the seals off.
Also I had to do paperwork for the truckers and make copies.
There was little or no training as it was assumed that my supervisor would take her time to properly train me. Well all she wanted to do was sit up front, talk on her cell phone to either her girlfriends and or her boyfriend (who was a supervisor for the company we are paid to protect.) Which that was a no no by Allied Barton rules. But she was given permission to see her married boyfriend by the company. She would take her patrols and stop to talk with him for hours at a time.
Most times she could not be reached by walkie talkie. When up front in the guard shack she would be on the computer playing poker with other people including our manger with Allied Barton. They would sit and email each other off and on all night. Where was the protection and the training I was supposed to get? She was too busy with her boyfriend and her poker games to care.
Our first shift supervisor (John) was the kind who really loved to bark orders. He would never pass to me anything fromone shift to another. He would always tell my male partner and I had to hear my orders form him. John would never talk to me. He griped about the things that I did but never took the helm and trained me either. Now I was to protect this huge building with little or no training. And no one to do it for me.
I was told by other Allied Barton employees that our onsite manager did not care what happens as long as none of us rocks the boat. He sat up front and got paid without doing a lick of work. He also played poker online while he was getting paid to protect and to serve. He and the supervisor would take several cigarette breaks while I did not have even a lunch break.
I was in a 9 by 12 shack with filthy carpeting, dirty walls, dirt so thick that I could carve my name in it on the counters, computer, file cabinets. My bathroom was the same one all the truckers and associates used. We had no break room so I could not heat up for lunch a nice meal. No vending machines. If we did not bring it with us we was out of luck.
I had to put up with associates all the time being late on me. I would have to stay at times 12 hour shifts cause a door would be stuck or someone called off. We was on a constant basis short of help. No one would stay. No one wanted to work. All they wanted to do was sit up front and smoke the cigarettes, goof off. Me I was stuck in the back of the million square foot building with filthy surroundings, filthy bathroom, no place to eat, and I had to eat in between truckers and doing inventory.
I had to take inventory of the lot and the inside docks. Alot of the time by myself.
I was left alone on weekends and sometimes at night until 2am. At times I was the only one in the building. No other guards or associates. I had no training but was left alone to protect this building. I had no codes if the alarms should go off. No one to contact. We did not call the onsite manager of Allied. My traing on fire saftey came from a book. My supervisor never took me around to show me how things should be.
This company is paying good money to Allied and all they was doing was goofing off. We was not getting paid enough to care about what was going on and doing too much of this company's work to care. The some of the employees of this company really treated us like dirt. I had been yelled at by shipping clerks who had no authority to say anything about anything. The screw ups was unbelieveable.
I was not getting paid to be yelled at by some low company employee. The company expected us to do most of the shipping and receiving work. Like open over seas containers too see what was in them. This was not our job. They even called us just to go push a button to open a door. They was so uncapable of opening their own doors. Why, they security to do it for them.
The ones who was not getting paid, working in filthy conditions, no benefits, no proper uniforms, and overworked. At last paycheck, I had worked 82 hours, and that was in 7 days. I had to say until 1am one morning so the 3rd shift supervisor could go out to eat. I was supposed to get off at midnight. I was so exhausted I could barely drive home. I was afraid to drive, but did he care? I don't think so. As long as he got his dinner in before I left.
I am now going to work for a different company. Nothing in the security field. I start today. So if anyone reading this wants to work for Allied and don't want to work and get underpaid this is the job for you. I am a 54 year old woman with bills to pay but not willing to tolerate being treated like yesterdays garbage by my coworkers. I had one worker who worked with me twice a week who was the only one who cared to help me and help train me. Most of the workers was elderly men with health issues.
When I left they was hiring some younger men who also was trained to sit up front and do nothing. I was the only one who never got the chance to be trained to sit up front and do nothing. I was to sit in the back and shut up. I was forgot about except when it came time that overtime was needed. Then all of a sudden I existed.
I would be called at home on my days off and was told by John the 1st shift supervisor that after all you needed to come in since it was my normal day to work. One time I was called twice at home and twice on my cell to come in an work a 12 hour shift on my day off. I had just worked a 12 hour shift the night before. I was talked to my my superiors since I did not answer the call.
After all I had no life of my own or so they thought. I handwritten my letter that I was going to leave and why. I never saw my family or enjoyed a dinner with my husband. I needed a better life that what Allied Barton had to give. I had to pay 20.00 a paycheck for my uniforms which was pulled out of a garbage bag and handed to me, which was 2 sizes to big. I paid $39.00 for licence and badge which I never got.
So I am very happy that I left that environment. I had asked to be transfered to another site, but I was told that I had to be at this one for 6 months and go back online to apply for another site. Well I was there only 2 months when I turned in my resignation. I gave a month notice and worked 3 weeks of it. Today I turn my uniforms in and hopefully get all the money back for them.
PS along with taking inventory with the inside docs I had to left 43 garage doors to see if the trucks was loaded or not. Now these doors are huge and I walked around with a very sore shoulder for 3 weeks lifting these doors. I wore black truck grease on my shirts from climbing under the semi trailersputting those 20lb locks on. I walked that large lot in the 100 degree heat doing inventory while a couple of my male partners would sit in the shack and play with the cameras, talk on the phone or just disappear. The work had to be done. The 3rd shift supervisor would sneak around watching to make sure all of us was working. Yea right. He would go back on camera to try catching people. Who would he report all this to?
NO one cared! He also sat up front and watched televison and smoke his cigarettes also. It was a sorry situation working for Allied. I was told not to go to corprate as they would not do anything about what was happeing. I could not transfer so I QUIT.
