I had Sprint PCS on a month-to-month basis (no contract). When I tried to cancel, the phone operator wants to charge me $150 for early cancellation. I was proven right after 3 phone calls and heated discussions (about one hour total). My cancel date was to be April-02. Well, in May I called Sprint PCS to check how much I owe, and I found out that my cancelled account was REACTIVATED and I got a bill for May! By whom, I asked Sprint: no reply, Sprint would not tell me anything. It finally agrees to cancel the new charges. I suspect the operator whom I had heated words with, used my personal info to call in and reactivate my account (SPrint does not verify your ID by calling you back at your home phone).

Since in previous months, my Due-Amount on SPrint website was always different from my Due-Amount in the bills I received by mail, I suspected that their accounting/computer system was screwed up. I requested a copy of all my past bills (about a year and a half) so I can check against my payments to confirm any money I owe. SPrint told me that is will cost me $5 per month, or I can view the past bills on its website. BUT, since I am no longer a customer, I cannot log on the website anyore. $5 / month x 18 months = $90 just to get the copies, and the Due-Amount is about $130!

I tried SPrint "eCare" email and asked them to help me get the copies. Since my account is closed, "eCare" declined to assist me. Also, eCare employees are based in India, they use very flowery English but NEVER give me any useful info. And they take about 1-2 week to reply to an email. And then they told me that my due amount is now $170 instead of $130! Why? No explanation.

Morale of the story: Sprint PCS will rip you off if you dont watch them. They will refuse to help you if you are seeking verification of their charges.

Their phone service is poor, I got cut off so many times I decided to cancel my account. Keep ALL your past bills and verify them carefully. Best of all, get rid of your cell phone service regardless of the company. They are there to entice you to spend your $, and they will rip you off any way they can.

Best alternative: get a PAGER, it costs only $10 / month. Together with a public phone, you still have rapid connection. And the pager, by using longer transmission frequencies, can go thru buildings better and reach you where the cell phones may not. Better service for less $, what are you waiting for? Down with cell phones!
