Ripoff refusing refund false advertising takes advantage of self movers Nationwide

Movex Inc. Calls itself "the original" self service mover that saves you time and money. I would recommend another company.

1] Movex arrived late for our cross-country move and later refused to honor a 10 percent refund in the contract for doing so.
2] At no time could we track our load and the delivery was made at the latest possible time to avoid an additional refund.
3] No equipment was provided whatsoever, not even a lock to store our belongings. Contrary to what Ms. "Trace" (who works in marketing) might tell you, the contract specifically states that no equipment, dollies, ramps, or blankets included, will be provided.
4] Their advertising makes promises the standard contract refutes so they make money from false advertising.

We called on the day of our move because the truck was several hours late. Generally you are told the trailer is dropped off between 1-5 P.M. On a sheduled day. Around 6 P.M. We were told it was 45 minutes to an hour and half away. After 8 P.M. No one could be reached at Movex and the trailer was still not there.

Movex covered for their mistake by stating the arrival times are "averages" and not guaranteed. So when the truck drives past your house at 10 P.M. On the delivery date, this is apparently an acceptable way to satisfy the contract terms.

When the truck arrived late, they woke our neighbors trying to back into our small driveway. No one was home (we stayed in a hotel) and after finding out he wasn't going to fit in the driveway the truck simply left. We received one voicemail the next morning from the driver. No one at Movex bothered to call us that night because their hours are 9-8 P.M.

The second day was lost trying to find a place for the trailer to fit. (I called a few days prior to explain our driveway might be too small for a 28 foot trailer but no one seemed to care.) We needed an alternate dropoff, not on a private way or the lawn, but in a public parking lot. After spending hours on the phone with Movex, we had to get approval from a store manager faxed to the company before they would drop our trailer.

The trailer finally arrived around 6 P.M. The day after our move date. The cost of hotels, rental trucks, and anything incurred from this was a total loss... including time. Movex takes no responsibility.

We threatened to go with another self service mover and were offered a full refund. But we stuck with Movex because they promised to do their job and get the trailer there immediately. It would have taken us too much time to receive our money back and schedule a new move date.

Neither the Director of Operations, Mr. I* (ROR REDACTED FOR SECURITY PURPOSES), nor customer service were ever able to give us the location of our truck or an estimated arrival time. Again, the advertising claims that each trailer is tracked using new software and the mover is given a code to locate their truck online. Either they had an extremely bad week or this is false advertising and the trucks are never tracked except by cell phone and trucking order.

The company makes over $9 million a year with less than 40 employees. (Do the math.) So our ten percent (approx. $173) probably doesn't mean a whole lot to them. It means bad business to us and a terrible moving experience.

There is no coverage for broken things, or damage to household goods, except for "catastophic" damage such as the truck having an accident. Several lamps, picture glass were broken but no claims forms are available and Movex doesn't cover them anyway.

After the move was complete, Mr. I* (ROR REDACTED FOR SECURITY PURPOSES) simply refused to honor the 10 percent refund we discussed because he said the driver arrived on the scheduled day. Whether or not we actually received the trailer or were able to do any packing that day was irrelevant. He made excuses but no promises.

Movex takes advantage of their "average" delivery times and false advertising to make a profit from people already strapped for money and trying to move. Perhaps this is how Mr. Suddath's Movex Inc. Is becoming one of the "fastest growing" companies in Tampa, by lowering the costs and keeping all the profits no matter what quality of service is provided. Movex is a ripoff!
