A technician came to my house and installed cable internet. They spliced the wire before the ground. They attached a cable splitter on the side of my house and ran the wire into the crawlspace under my house.
When they cut the wire before the ground they didn't add a ground to the new splitter (if they would have cut the wire after the ground it would not have been necessary). Not having a ground is what caused the entire problem. When they ran the wire under my house they draped the new wire over the top of my furnace.
We had a lighting storm and the utility pole was struck by lighting. The lighting came down the cable wire and should have been stopped by the ground.
The lighting shorted out my furnace and I had to have the circuit board replaced. It also fried the motherboard on my brand new computer. And last but not least it burned up a small tv in my bedroom.
I know it was the cable because the original ground did protect the left side of my house. Everything that was connected to a cable line on the right side of my house was shorted out. Everything on the left side was fine. The original ground was in the center of the front of my house.
In my bedroom, the TV that was ruined was also connected to a playstation 2, that was plugged into the same electrical outlet as the TV. The TV would never come on again, but we still use the playstation. It wasn't damaged at all. Only the things that were connected to the cable, before the ground.
When I realized what had happened I called the company and they sent another technician and he told my that the company was at fault. He had the owner call me and he came to my house.
The owner and the two technicians they sent of course said that they were not at fault.
I was never reimbersed the $1500 I was out for fixing their mistake.
