Glidden Evermore Paint
Did Not Honor Their Promotional Rebate Ripoff

Their promotion read as follows:

Receive a $5 manufacturer mail-in rebate with the purchase of each gallon-sized can and/or a $20.00 manufacturer mail-in rebate with the purchase of each five gallon-sized can of Glidden Evermore interior or exterior paints.

My husband bought five one-gallon-sized cans and one five-gallon-sized can. I prepared everything as the instructions specified. It says allow 11-13 weeks for processing.

I mailed the rebate in on June 3.

When we received the rebate, it was only a partial rebate. It was the rebate on the one-gallon-sized cans. Okay. I thought, maybe the five-gallon-sized can rebate was coming separately. I waited longer.

When more than ample time had passed, I began to research the tracking number through the website listed in the promotion. Since the promotion date had ended, the site would only tell me just that. I e-mailed them, but the e-mail didn't work.

January 27, I mailed a notice to them explaining what had happened. They ripped my letter open, stuffed it back into the ripped envelope, rubber stamped the envelope "Promotion Closed, Return to Sender" and threw it back into the mail using the exact same stamp to mail it back to me that I had used to mail it to them.

That was it. No other explanation or anything.

So then on Feb. 18, I sent a second notice to them, this time to the president.

It read:

Recently, I mailed in a notice that you guys had failed to rebate me for part of my purchase. It was returned to me with the envelope stamped "Promotion Closed, Return to Sender".

I realize that the promotion is closed now, but it was not closed when I sent the information in for my rebate. You guys made the error during that time. You guys have records to verify what I am saying. I feel that you guys should correct your error and honor your rebate promotion.

If there is some other problem as to why you will not honor your rebate offer, I need a better explanation than the rudeness that I received last time.

Thank you,

Today, July 7, I called them through their 800 number. At first, they told me that the computer was showing that I didn't mail in the UPC code. Since I had mailed it in and later a copy of it, they should have had it. After further research, they did find that I had mailed it in.

Then, they tell me that it isn't one of the paints that qualifies for the promotion. Why couldn't someone have simply told me before now.

I still don't understand why it doesn't qualify. The rebate form only specifies that it has to be Glidden Evermore interior or exterior paint, which it was.
