I purchased a Bullmastiff on February 20th from world of pets.in good faith I trusted their word that the dog was healthy up to date with his shots and was examined by a vet every week at their store. On February 21 the dog had diarrhea and also had discharge coming out his nose. I figured since I know puppies has to get use to their new environment that it was just his nerves. On February 22 the dog was worstening and had blood in his diarrhea his breathing wasn't good so I rushed him that night to the Emergency animal Clinic. There they examined him and the physical examination revealed the bilateral nasal discharge, increased respiratory rate and effort, harsh lung sounds diffusel, and a pot-bellied appearance in the abdomen. He also had a chest xray done and it revealed prominent in the cranioventral and middle lung fields, which is supportive of a diagnosis of pneumonia. The puppy also had coughing and gagging, the pneumonia is most likely a consequence and progression of a worsening bordatella infection (Kennel Cough. On February 23 I called the pet shop and informed them of the dogs health and also let them know the dog is in the hospital. They informed me to take him out because I was covered under warranty for up to $1000 but that I understand is included with the purchase of the dog. The manager of the store (Ken) told me that he will be left at the vet until he is well but on feb. 24th stories changed and they told me that the dog was going to be at their store not to incur any more charges. When I spoke to their vet he mentioned that the pet store wasn't paying him and if I was willing to pay it will be $80 a day. Went to the Pet shop that nite and they were telling me the dog isn't that bad is a mild pneumonia he will be fine at our store. The dog has a contagious disease and he is suppose to be isolated from other animals. On Feb 25 the pet shop called and their stories change again and the dog was going to be left at the vet for his treatment. They informed me that I was able to go and visit the dog at the vet. 2pm headed to the vet and when arrived they were closing but an employee took us down to see the dog. He was in a small room caged with no food no water just an empty bowl. Newspaper wrapped in his feces. There were no windows. There in the other cages were 2 other dogs that were also there because of health issues and they were also purchased from world of pets. When we left it was 3:15pm he was left in a dark room no ventilation or food. The vet wasn't opening till 11am the next morning. I am worried that the dog isn't being treated properly at this so called vets place where I feel be isn't being treated. I also understand their is a law for consumers that we have to be reimbursed for veterinarry costs of any vet we choose. A world of pets owner (Gary) is telling me that they won't cover me if I take him out of their vet. I paid too much money on this dog as it is to let him die on me. I grew a love for this poor puppy that I feel is being mistreated and doesnt deserve to be in a place like that in his condition.
