I rented a costume on 10-10-05 which was to be picked up on 10-27-05, for a Halloween Party scheduled for 10-30-05. The costume was paid for in full $132.50. Hurricane Wilma forced the closing of the place where the Halloween Party was to have taken place. Soon after the Hurricane I telephoned Costume World to cancel my order.
At this time I asked when I may receive a refund since the order was cancelled and I had not picked up the costume. I was informed that I would have to call again in one month while the owner made a decision. I called each month since the end of October attempting to obtain a refund, but to no avail.
Finally, disgusted, I personally visited Costume World and spoke with a female employee on or about 2/3/06. She allegedly telephoned the owner and was told I would not be receiving any refund.
In my opinion, the action on the part of the owner of Costume World is tantamount to a contractor gauging a customer in a crisis such as occurred with Hurricane Wilma. I would think that good business practices and ethics should dictate the owner returning the monies paid.
