After the holiday season, we tried to return some duplicate toys that were purchased from Target in another state. The items are sold exclusively at target, but they won't take them back. When we explained to the girl the items were Christmas gifts, they are unopened, there's nothing wrong with them, they are just duplicates. She said the best she could do was let us exchange the items for something in the same department. We asked her to please explain to us why that policy is in place, what purpose does it serve? She said that they normally wouldn't exchange items without a reciept at all, but as a courtesy to us...
So we asked to speak to the manager, Jennifer. She also could not explain the purpose of this ridiculous policy and had a very nasty attitude. We explained we just want to return these items that are only sold in YOUR store and shop at YOUR store and probably spend more than the purchase price of the item anyway. So why, we asked, are we limmited to just ONE department? She went on with the "It's a courtesy to you..." spill and so we said that we would like the number to the corporate offices and she quite bluntly told us, and I quote, "If you want to shop somewhere else, that's your perrogitive!"
So while we were waiting for the girls to find the corporate phone number, we were standing at the counter and this other girls begins talking quite loudly, "That's ok, don't feel bad. Earlier I had a customer that was worse!" Excuse me?
We left the store and called the customer service number they gave us and went through a CS Rep and a Manager, none of whom could explain this ridiculous policy and none who were willing to help or compromise. My husband said, "I just want tyou to explain this policy so that I can understand it. The different departments of Target are owned by Target, not individual companies, so why are you limmited to which department you can shop at if all the money goes back to the Target Corporation?" Still no one could explain it.
Every person we encountered was totally uncooperative. This policy is not posted ANYWHERE even on the back of the reciept. We were told by several individuals during this happy little escapade that Target does not care about their customers or their satisfaction.
I plan to become as annoying and inconvientient to the Target Corporation as their stupid return policy is to me.
