This is a letter I sent to John Menard. CEO and founder of Menards. I live in the town in which Menards HQ is located. If you think you got in bad else where, try living here where Menards is our only choice.

I first would like to say that I don't like the Menards CORP. It isn't because of your stupid jingle or the fact that I have spent my life watching your poorly produced commercials with the "Menards Guy." BTW, he is from my hometown as well, nor is it because you want to turn so-called wetlands into a distribution center. For all I care you could put a Menards in the rainforest. It simply is because I have no other choice in the Chippewa Valley to shop.
Lack of competition is against the American way and personally, as a business man, it goes against one of my most fundamental tenets: Competition made America the powerhouse it is but not in Eau Claire. That makes the Menards organization Marxist and I think that stinks.
That isn't why I am writing today.
The reason I am writing is to inform you that I was treated like shit for returning batteries that were dead. These were brand new dead batteries for a smoke detector. I received no apology; your punk front desk people didn't show any remorse or embarrassment. I was threatened to be arrested and was told to shop elsewhere, and for what?
Perhaps it's because I didn't like the fact that your cheap ass organization was going to refund only the last sale price and received no apology. I do have the receipt. It's right here but I did call and I told whoever straight out I wasn't going to go digging through a years worth of write-offs for one damn receipt. I was told there would be no problem, oh but there was.
I will look forward to forwarding this to the BBB. Not that Menards cares, Menards already has an unacceptable record with the BBB and hell, "if Menards' customers don't like it, they can shop somewhere else." Right?
I will always do my best to find some blog or something on the web to get this story out. If I can prevent on person from shopping there, I'll be happy knowing that Menards CORP will have lost much more than the money they would have made on refunding me just the last sale price. I will send you a copy of the receipt to prove I am not a liar and I recommend going through the Rayovac (sp?) two pack heavy duty D batteries because I have a feeling that the whole lot you purchased is bad.
BTW, if there was a choice in the Chippewa Valley, I probably would still shop at Menards because logistically it is the best choice. Hmmm there's that word again. Choice.
