Promised Refund Never Came, Horrible Work and Customer Service, Ripoff

On April 23 I inquired with Digital Transfer Systems at 710 S. Goodwin Ave Suite 2 Urbana, Illinois 61801 now at 3175 Commercial Avenue Suite 100 Northbrook, IL 60062, to transfer my old 8mm home movies to DVD.

I received a response back that they could do it and was given a price and decided to give them my business. They wrote several long and detailed emails stating how advanced they were and what a great job they would do and how satisfied I would be. I decided to use them and sent the package to them overnight express on April 29.

After I agreed to give them my business the emails stopped and trying to communicate with them was like pulling teeth. I was told initially it would take about ten days to complete.

After ten days passed and I hadn't heard from anyone I contacted them and was told they were behind and it would be delayed. They also said they misquoted me and the price would be double what the original quote was. I told them I had a receipt for the work and to double my cost was unacceptable.

Again another week went by with no response so I contacted them again. This went on for several more weeks and I was finally told that they were too busy to do the order because after my order came in a large job came in which took priority over mine so mine was put on the back burner. They told me it would probably be in my best interest to just cancel the order and have someone locally do it.

Apparently, they were trying to get out of doing my job since someone there misquoted the price after I had already paid for it with my Visa and had a receipt. I told them I had been waiting this long and I really didn't want to cancel the order now because they knew all of the particulars of it. They agreed to keep the order and promised to have it to me by the end of June.

At the end of June I still heard nothing so I called again and they said they would get it out to me soon. Finally the order arrived riddled with mistakes. I emailed them with the mistakes and they said they would correct them. This took another three weeks.

When I got the "corrected" DVD in the mail it still had mistakes in it. I emailed again and told them they still hadn't corrected all of the mistakes. I was extremely clear as to what the mistakes were (they were very simple mistakes) and said if there was the slightest doubt as to what I was asking to be corrected to please call or email me. I never received a call or email but the next set of discs arrived with mistakes still on them!

I emailed yet another time to tell them it was not acceptable in the current state. Mr. Eugene Gekhter the president of the company emailed me to say regrettably they had accidentally deleted all of the data from their computer containing my job and I would have to mail the hard copy of the DVD back to them so they could make the corrections.

I was livid at this point knowing that to make a copy from the DVD vs. The data on the computer would compromise the quality of the picture. I went ahead and sent the DVDs back so they could copy them and make the corrections.

To my horror when I received the discs back they had scratched through the incorrect names and wrote the correct name below it and left the incorrect name on the screen and still hadn't corrected one of the incorrect names at all.

I had finally reached my limit and wrote a very strong email demanding satisfaction. The response I received from Mr. Gekhter was they had invested enough time in this and I could either start the project over at my expense or mail the discs back for a refund.

Obviously there is no way I was going to pay a second time and start the project all over so I sent the discs back. This is the worst experience I have ever had in my life with a merchant. What I was told would take ten days took four months and at the end I had nothing to show for it and they had the nerve after destroying my order from their negligence asking me to pay more money to fix their mistake.

Eugene Gekhter sent me an email a couple of weeks ago saying that he had put a check in the mail for $50.00 to cover the cost of shipping that I had incurred for having to mail back the discs for him to correct his mistakes. I still haven't received the check and if he mailed it a couple of weeks ago I would have had it by now.

From what I understand there has been a rash of complaints about this company and I believe they need to be investigated to save another innocent consumer from being ripped off and going through the nightmare I did. I don't know if this company is intentionally ripping customers off or if it is incompetence or possibly lack of concern for the customer or something else. I am an extremely unsatisfied customer that has gone through four months of torture with this company.
