I just got off of the phone with "Milton Jones" of the government Grant Information Center. He informed me that, due to a government report that showed that my husband and I had financial difficulties in the past, we were being awarded $5000 (which makes me kind of jealous since most of you were offered $8000). I started getting suspicious immediately, but when he asked to 'confirm' my name and asked how to spell it, I was pretty sure it was a scam.
Before getting any definitive info about their company or the grant, he asked me for my bank info. I refused, but he was persistent. Finally, I told him if he gave me his bank info I would give him mine. As he proceeded to give me his 'routing number', I interrrupted him and asked if he was stupid or something. Why would you give your personal information to someone having financial difficulties? He assured me that that was how sure he was this was a guaranteed program. I told him he was a fool, that I wouldn't give him anything until I got something in the mail and was able to look them up on the computer. At that we hung up.
One other comment, I just happened to read someone else's report that he (and others) spoke to someone who seemed to be of Middle Eastern with a distinctly American name as well.
