Complaint Description:
I hired Atlantis Vanlines to move my entire household from OR to NY. We have a contract dated 5/31/05, Work order # W401508. Total contract price of $4543.00 I made these arrangements/contract with 'Betty' of Atlantis Vanlines. When asked when I would like my belonging delivered, I answered, "As soon as possible." Betty assured me that it would be between the dates of June 12 - June 18 that our belongings would be delivered to our home in NY. She also assured me that there would be no more charges unless the total weight of the move was more than the estimate of 7,700 pounds.

Our belongings were picked up by 'Gil' on June 2. Both my mother and my father were there to make sure that it all went well. Both my parents as well as the Vanline employees had to wait to gain entrance to the storage facility as the owner had to be rushed to the hospital in premature labor. On June 2 I received a call from my mom telling me she was concerned because they were charging me for repacking my stuff. I had her put Gil on the phone. I questioned him as to why and how much and he assured me (in the presence of both my mother and my father) that this was necessary to the safety of the move and that it would not amount to more than $100 - $200 more in charges. Gil said they would call me when they got closer to NY.

When the week of the 12th came I called the company only to learn that Betty was no longer employed there and nobody seemed to know where my stuff was. The following day I spoke with 'James' who told me it was all there and that there had been a "mix up" and that my stuff would be shipped shortly. He also told me that Betty had misinformed me, as had Gil. He said they had 14 - 21 BUSINESS days to get my belongings to NY, which will be the 1st of July. James also stated that although the weight was less, they had charged me over $800 in 'packing' fees. I told him what Gil had told me and he said that was not right and that I would also be charged for the wait time. He did say he would speak to 'Roy', the president of the company about this.

On Fri. June the 18 I received a call from the 'warehouse' telling me that my stuff was being moved onto the truck at that time and would be shipped out that night. The man told me that they had to stop in Denver first and would call when they arrived. After several days, when I heard nothing, I called them on June 24th. I spoke with Roy who told me that my stuff had indeed been put on a truck but then was taken back off the truck so a commercial load could be put on! He said they needed that truck because it was the biggest. I explained to him that I had 3 children and myself and we were all sleeping on the floor! He assured me he would 'take care of it' over the weekend and we would talk on Mon. The 27th. He did not call back. I had to call them and he did not come in that day.instead I talked again to James who told me that what Roy had told me was wrong, that my stuff had NEVER been put on the truck and was in fact still sitting in OR! He said he was trying to find another carrier to pick up my belongings to move it out here and they would pay the difference.

Thus far I have paid them $200 for a deposit and another $2170 upon them picking up my stuff. This check was cashed 6 days later!!! Today, I have not heard ONE WORD from anyone from Atlantis telling me ANYTHING about the when, why, who or what's of my entire worldly belongings!!!

These people have been dishonest from the very beginning. I do not want to pay for their 'wait time' nor should I have to pay $800 dollars MORE because they repacked my stuff, when Betty told me there would be NO MORE FEES!!! I also do not think I should have to pay the full cost of this move since clearly it will not be arriving on time, or anytime soon. Meanwhile, my 3 children and I have nothing to sit or sleep or eat on, Atlantis has my money and all my stuff. I feel I should be given a very deep discount for the hassle, emotional stress, time from work and everything else I have had to deal with because of their shoddy business practices.
