Do you have issues with Verizon Communications and superpages.com?

In my case, one of their salespeople contacted me and offered me an online listing on superpages.com. I expressed concern that this advertising might not be cost effective. I had, in fact, just completed removing my advertising from their printed directory (not an easy task) for just that reason. The sales person offered me two months for free and said that after that I could pay monthly, cancel at any time, and not have to pay any more. Given my previous experience I was quite certain we both understood that my liability would be limited up to the point when I notified them I wanted to cancel my advertising.

I have been trying to cancel my listing since September. When I have to leave a message my calls are not returned, Certified letters to their corporate CEO and "Customer Service" department are not acknowledged (other than my receiving back the return receipt). When I do get in touch with someone they insist it is Verizon policy that ads must run a full year. According to Verizon it's too bad for me that I didn't know their policy when I agreed to accept the trial offer and the salesperson chose to tell me something different. Complaints are currently pending with the Federal Trade Commission, the Dallas Better Business Bureau, and the Texas Attorney General. Through all this the bills keep coming.

Has something like this happened to you? Are you finding yourself locked in an agreement with Verizon that was modified by them after the fact? I would love to hear your story. Please feel free to email me with whatever information you care to send at [email protected]. Perhaps together we can persuade this corporate giant, of ever dwindling proportions, to start treating their customers in a fashion that will encourage them to remain customers.

If you are still interested in paying for a superpages.com listing I would suggest you ask for the subscription terms in writing before finalizing any agreement. Also, I should mention that the reason I chose to terminate my trial listing after the two month free period was that I did not receive a single call from anyone who got my number from superpages.com.
