In April of my family and I moved to Biloxi Mississippi. We were in need of corporate housing and found Rental Resources through the VA where my husband works.
The stay was a nightmare. We had two small children (which was
explained) and two indoor cats, and the condo was full of crystal, vases
and had a completely glass table in the dining room. All of this was put away by my husband before the children and I arrived. There were
construction materials all around the condo, and by the second month, a
racoon was living in between the floors. We had process servers coming to our door looking for our landlord, Constance Bartenbach, who apparantly used the condo to live in before us. Our telephone was cut off due to non-payment, and she blamed her custodial staff. When we moved out three months later, she assured me that we would be receiving our $250 deposit shortly. At that time she asked me about a lamp that was "missing" that I had never seen.
A few weeks passed, and I called her to ask about the deposit. She said
she had gotten busy and forgotten. A few more weeks and she claimed that it was a pet FEE, and she didn't owe it to me. After I contacted her by registered mail, with a copy of our agreement showing pet DEPOSIT, she claimed I owed her part of it for the missing lamp. I contacted the BBB of Mississippi, where apparently all you have to do is ignore them to not have anything done to you. I contacted Ms. Bartenbach one last time, and she claimed that the people who rented the condo after me had to leave because my cats had left fleas in the condo? Her story changed every time I talked to her. Could it have been the big hairy Racooon's fleas?
Because my cats didn't have any. Anyway, she then claimed that she should be able to charge me for the lost revenue, (even though she had clients in that apt. The day we left) and the subsequent flea bombings, which were NEVER mentioned when we spoke on the phone, even as it was suppossedly going on.
I should have known when the first process server arrived that we were in trouble, but no one at the BBB seems to care that she is ripping people off, and not providing the services she advertised. My complaint is not listed on their web site either.
