Last year AT&T cut off all resident long distance service in Illinois with out notice to its customers including us without letting anyone know about it.
We found out when trying to send a fax then checked to see what happened and we were told we no longer have an account with them.
Now out of the blue with no notice or inquire if we even wanted it, we found out we had their service again when they sent us a bill stating they were going to take the money out of our checking account.
I notified them we no longer wanted their services and they no longer had permission to take any money from our account. I also informed our bank. I never got a response from them.
Lo and behold they sent another bill, I checked to see if we had and account, the answer was we do not have an account there.
So I wrote again and said we have no account why the bill.
I even sent a copy of their statement that we have no account. The reply from their coustomer no service was that they would do nothing and I had to call a number that would be a long distance number from our phone.
Our bills were always paid on time we were not over do or late.
Is this legal for them to terminate without notice then over a year later send bills for a closed account that they reopened according to the billing dept. With out actually having a valid account, without asking if we even wanted it. We have made other long distance arragements. This is like any company that sends junk you do not want nor asked for then demands payment for it.
Has this happened to others in Illinois? If I pay the bills for the months they charge me that I did not know we even had nor wanted what can I do to get my money back.
