We were the start-up franchisee. The founders were not confident enough in there own concept to launch the first one on their own. We became the rest store and because of our foodservice and customer service background we worked out the "bugs" in the system for them. We were promised marketing materials, new products and support. We gave copies of materials we had from an existing franchise to help the cause and after 2 years we still don't have an operations manual for Log cabin BBQ. What is sad is we developed all the systems and recipes for these guys and in the end we got ignored.
They had no idea how to heat and hold the ribs, they had a crappy chicken product and no beef. I recruited our pork producer to bring a quality beef & chicken product into the system. I developed all the print and marketing materials we used, they never in 2 years contributed a thing to their own concept.
You can buy a franchise if you want but ask yourself first: what is my 7% getting me that i couldn't do myself? Cause you won't get any help from these two, i promise.
