Rent-A-Center
Phone Harrasment, Unprofessional Behavior and Language, Not Abiding Contractual Agreement. Ripoff

My fiance and I entered a rental agreement to purchase a computer and a couch. We never missed a payment, nor were we late on a payment. When we entered the agreement it was under the premise that the couch was qoute "real leather" and the computer was capable of burning both cds and dvds.

When we recieved the merchandise in our home it quickly became evident that we had not recieved the computer we intended and in fact it was an entirely different system altogether, which I will add had evidently been used and was several years outdated. The couch and loveseat were comprised of some sort of synthetic "pretend leather" commonly known as 'pleather' which the salesman had assured us they were most certainly not.

When I called the store about an hour after delivery of the merchandise to confront the manager with the situation I was dealt with extremely rudely and put on hold for over half an hour and then abrubtly hung up on. Two hours later the manager and a rather burly assistant showed up at my house with a newer computer system (not the one we had agreed to purchase) demanding that we honor our contractual agreement and pay for at least three months before returning the merchandise. Looking to avoid any physical confrontation I obliged them and said I would consider it.

It has now been several months since I have asked Rent-A-Center to come and pick up this overpriced 'junk' and I have just recently had some very disturbing dealings with them.

Last month after requesting that that pick up the merchandise several times to no evail, I asked why the manager (Steve) had promised to retrieve the merchandise and never followed through? He responded by saying that: "Snow had blocked the roads on one occasion, and on another two occasions they had knocked on the door and no one was home". I know for a fact Steve is lying to me because on two of the occasions both my fiance and I, AND my mother in law were at the house waiting patiently when the manager swears they were "knocking on our door"

The reason I chose to report this company is because after this conversation with the manager Steve, who by the way promised to fix the situation by sending someone "Right out to pick the equipment up", I have now just one day ago recieved a letter from his office stating that they are attempting to sue me for 'stealing their furniture' and failing to return it. I am absolutely livid with this store and the entire situation, In all honesty the only thing we want is to wash our hands of these crooks forever. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions on how we should go about handling this matter?

Sincerely,

Concerned Consume
